Sloth (Year 5)

Welcome to Sloth Class

Homework is due on Thursday.

Homework is handed out on Friday.

P.E kit to be worn on Monday and Thursday.

Outdoor learning for this half term is Wednesday 2nd February. Please ensure that children are wearing weather appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear. 

 

Life in Sloth Class

Week beginning 17th January 

 

This week, year 5 have enjoyed SUFC coming in, we made our own PE lesson which we will be teaching this term. We made a story map about Beowulf and then we went into the hall and acted it out. In science, we learnt about how the earth is sphere and we showed this by re-creating a human solar system. In PE, we practised passing a dodging at the same time as part of our dodgeball lessons. We also met Bowie for the first time! 

Week beginning the 10th January

We started our week with some rainforest related art and we began to read a story called Beowulf, which was originally a poem. On Wednesday 12th January, we visited the Southend Sealife Centre on our school trip and we saw lots of energetic and unique animals. We listened to the experts tell us about the meerkats and how the the monkeys were rescued from a lab. We have included some pictures below! 

Week beginning 4th January 

We've had a successful first week back in Sloth class! In our writing lessons we have been creating poems about a sloth and we wrote a class poem which you can see in the pictures. In maths, we have been learning to multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000. In PE we attempted the bleep test and Mason and Jude reached level 10! In science we investigated which materials were the best thermal insulators!

Week Beginning November 15th 

What a week we have had in year 5! We started the week with a bang - with a surprise visit from players from the Southend United First Team.

Then we had an exciting day in outdoor learning where we learnt to make stretchers and practised camouflaging and trapping in the afternoon. 

We ended the week with our Eastwood Kindness Day. We showed off our singing in the playground and showed off our odd socks to show how we are all different and we are all wonderful! 

Week Beginning 18th October 

Wow - what a half term! We have worked so hard in Sloth class and we have made loads of progress!

The week began with a visit from Mickey, Minnie and Peppa Pig! We have had a Harvest festival assembly, a visit from fireman Steve and a fabulous Hot chocolate Friday! 

We are so proud of you Sloth class, you have turned into year 5s this half term and I can't wait for more adventures next half term! 

 

Week Beginning 10th October 

 

This week we have been using all of our historical knowledge of Operation Dynamo to create historical recounts and interpreting information using a pictograms, bar charts and line graphs.
