Jubilee Celebrations!
We have had a wonderful week of celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this week, we've been busy learning all about Queen Elizabeth II and the wonderful things she has done for us during her reign. What a great week!
WB 16.05.2022
It’s been another busy week in sloth class. We finished our greenhouse projects and thought about how we could improve our designs. In science, we completed an investigation about seed dispersal and learnt how to create a fair test and we wrote some amazing stories in English.
we may not have had our tough mudder this week (this has been postponed to Tuesday) but we have been busy walking to school, helping us to get fitter, healthier and save the planet one step at a time!
WB 09.05.2022
This week started with designing and creating mini greenhouses as part of our DT. We looked at what made a good greenhouse and the different materials that we would need to use.
We also had our first gymnastics lesson, where we were introduced to different types of jumps.
In our writing lessons we have been mapping out part of The Explorers ready to write our own versions, this week we were trying to retell the story verbally.
WB 02.05.2022
This week we enjoyed an amazing outdoor learning day in the sunshine!
We used maps to find trees around the school and had to identify the tree using the shape of the leaves, which links with everything we are learning about habitats in our science lessons. As you can see, we had a great day!
Red Nose Day!
WB 7th March
It was a busy week at school this week! We had our last session at Eastwood Academy, where we got to put our skills into practice and play some basketball games. The year 9s did a great job and the secondary teachers were impressed with our behaviour and our attitude to our learning!
We had great weather for our outdoor learning day. We took our classroom learning about the Vikings outside and sent our viking longboats out for a viking burial at 'sea'! We practised our firelighting skills and crafted swords and bows and arrows.
WB 28th February 2022
This week has been jammed pack! The week Southend became a city, we ventured over to Eastwood Academy again and we celebrated World Book Day. In between all of the excitement we packed in plenty of work and started to learn about Viking Long Boats. What a crazy week!
World Book Day
As part of World Book Day Eastwood Primary School has been decorating classroom doors. The children chose our door cover based on the book that we have been covering recently - BEOWULF! We think it looks great and a little gruesome!
Southend is a City!
Week beginning 21st February
It has been an eventful week in sloth class this week. We had another session from Southend United on Monday and visited Eastwood Academy to be taught basketball skills on Wednesday. We have learnt about the phases of the moon, the planets in our solar system and finished our Beowulf battle scene writing. A great first week back!
Week beginning 17th January
This week, year 5 have enjoyed SUFC coming in, we made our own PE lesson which we will be teaching this term. We made a story map about Beowulf and then we went into the hall and acted it out. In science, we learnt about how the earth is sphere and we showed this by re-creating a human solar system. In PE, we practised passing a dodging at the same time as part of our dodgeball lessons. We also met Bowie for the first time!
Week beginning the 10th January
We started our week with some rainforest related art and we began to read a story called Beowulf, which was originally a poem. On Wednesday 12th January, we visited the Southend Sealife Centre on our school trip and we saw lots of energetic and unique animals. We listened to the experts tell us about the meerkats and how the the monkeys were rescued from a lab. We have included some pictures below!
