In Year 5 we have been reading the epic poem 'Beowulf', which we are immensely enjoying! To help us learn the story, we became storytellers and retold 'Beowulf' through drama. In groups, we took it in turns to retell, act out and perform for each other some of our favourite scenes from the text.

Week beginning: 10th January 2022

We have had a fun filled week in Spider Monkey class this week! One of the highlights of our week was visiting Sealife Adventure, where we had the opportunity to look at and find out about lots of different creatures. Some of our favourite were the meerkats and, of course, the monkeys!

We wrote thank you letters to Sealife Adventure to express our thanks and also tell them about our highlights from the day.

Star of the Week: Was awarded to ALL of Spider Monkey class this week for our fantastic trip. You were all amazing representatives for Eastwood Primary, polite and considerate the members of the public and asked thoughtful questions to the members of Sealife Adventure. Well done Spider Monkey Class!

Friday 19th November: Kindness and Odd Socks Day

For Kindness Day, we took part in a whole school perform of Bruno Mars song 'Count on you' to celebrate friendship and kindness.

We supported Anti-Bullying week too by wearing our odd socks to celebrate our differences!

Week beginning 15th November: Year 5 were lucky enough to welcome Southend United football players into class and had the opportunity to ask the players questions about their football careers.

This was part of our ongoing learning partnership with Southend United football club, who have been delivering additional PSHE and P.E sessions with year 5 and 6 once a week.

Understandably, we were all very excited to meet them and were left feeling inspired!

Tuesday 15th November: Outdoor Learning

As part of our outdoor learning, we became soldiers for the day! We had the chance to learn how to camouflage using natural resources, create traps for enemies and even how to build a stretcher using just sticks and rope. As you can see, we had so much fun!

Week beginning 1st November: Year 5 took part in 'bikeability' whereby we learned how to look after our bike, bike safety and how to ride our bikes confidently and safely.
