Turtle (Year 1)

Turtle Class

Key Dates:

PE - Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure that your children are dressed in PE kit on both days in the school colours. (White, green, grey or black).  Please ensure that earrings and watches are not worn on PE days.  Long hair should be tied back. 

Reading Books - Please ensure your child’s banded reading book and reading record are in school every day. Books will be changed on Monday and/or Thursday.

Attendance - Our attendance this week was 97.3% (most improved), well done Turtle Class!

Year 1 Singing Assembly

It was so lovely having all the adults in for our assembly today. Thank you all for coming. The children sand four songs: Power in Me, Hey You, Your Imagination and Count on Me. They were brilliant, I’m sure you’ll agree. 

Sports Day

Well done to everyone for taking part in sports day! Absolutely amazing effort by all. Unfortunately we didn’t get many photos as I was so busy watching you and cheering you on! Hopefully adults at home managed to capture some.

This Week’s Learning - 13/6/22

This week, we started with our trip. We also looked at capacity in maths, mixed colours in art and tried to persuade people to visit Southend in our writing.

The Queen’s Jubilee

We had an amazing week filled with lots of exciting activities. We made bunting, crowns, sandwiches and drew portraits of the Queen. Their singing was brilliant and they loved celebrating. What a lovely week Turtle Class! You all worked so hard with your phonics too.

This Week’s Learning - 23/5/22

We’ve had a brilliant half term. I hope you all have a well-deserved rest and remember to keep up with your phonics and reading! We spent this week improving our sketching skills and creating our first draft of Queen Elizabeth II. We will continue to look at these after half term. We also programmed the beebots and started looking at measuring mass.

This Week’s Learning - 16/5/22

What a fun week! We learnt all about trees and their leaves in science, had a Disney themed day and lunch, learnt about money, and so much more. 

Eastwood Day- Safe and Active

Well done to everyone who took part in Walk to School Week! We had a great day learning all about how to stay active and why walking to school is good for you, the community and the planet.

This Week’s Learning- 9/5/22

What a brilliant week! We thoroughly enjoyed our Afternoon Tea in light of our learning last term about the Royal Family and the Queen’s jubilee. We also continued learning our song in music, wrote about the Weather Monster and lots more.

We’ve had another brilliant week after the Bank Holiday weekend. We continued looking at poems in English, begun learning about time in maths, sung our song in music with actions and pretended to be beebots in computing where we gave our partner instructions.

We’ve had another fantastic week. We started out new topic in computing, looking at programming using Beebots; continued to look at numbers to 100, including partitioning and comparing them; starting our new sport in PE- cricket, as well as talking all about the seaside.

We had a fantastic week after coming back from the Easter holidays, especially with having Outdoor Learning on Wednesday where we learnt all about different types of trees in our environment. We linked this to our new topic in science- plants. We also started learning about numbers to 100 in maths and about different types of poetry in English.

We had a great week again this week, we got to get the equipment out in gymnastics, packed a suitcase for Paddington Bear, started our fractions topic and so much more! We also had an Easter egg hunt 🐣

We had a fantastic week which started with food tasting in Science. Have a look to see what we tried! We also enjoyed Red Nose Day, a Spring walk, grouping equally in maths and writing our recount about the trip to the Sealife centre. In gymnastics, we learnt how to do a forward roll.

We have had a fun filled week with Southend becoming a city, our trip, outdoor learning and world book day! We’ve also started writing our letters to the Queen and started our new sport in PE- hockey. Have a look and see our favourite books from the book corner.

Miss Hooper and Miss Smith were so impressed with you on the school trip this week and for asking fantastic questions whilst we were there. 

World Book Day Door

Our class voted for The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. We had so many amazing suggestions. Today (Friday 4th March), we had a ‘door tour’ where we got to see all of the decorated doors in the school,it was really fun!

Sealife Adventure Trip

We had an amazing time on our trip this week. There were so many animals to see, we saw the penguins being fed and a couple of animal talks. At the end, we played on the beach for a while which was great! The weather held out for us too. Can they tell you their favourite part? 

Southend becomes a city!

To mark this special occasion, we came dressed to school in our party clothes or blue. We discussed what makes a city and finished the day with a donut!

Miss Hooper has been really impressed with your effort in phonics and how you've tried so hard to improve your reading. She was also so pleased with your participation in lessons, especially answering questions in maths this week, well done!

This week we’ve been looking at writing a letter to the Queen. We continued with our second session of gymnastics and looked at grouping in computing. In science, we started our new topic where we have been looking at our senses.

This Week’s Learning- 7/2/22

This week we continued learning about the Queen, we made castles using building blocks, explored sentences and learnt lots of facts. We also explored pictures linked to Queen Victoria and discussed what we thought they could be. In maths, we were adding and taking away ones.

Film Night

Bug Club

What a fantastic turnout for our Bug Club session today. Thank you to everyone who attended, the children really enjoyed it.

Little City

We had an amazing time with Little City today. We made pizzas and smoothies as well as trying out the following stations: Vets, Doctors, Construction, Police, Firefighters, Cafe, Shop, Hairdressers, Dressing up, Mechanics and the Post Office.

While we looked at ordinal numbers in maths, we noticed our shadows on the ground and ordered ourselves from shortest to tallest using these. Then we competed in races to think about positions.
