Please read for more information about our Race and Identity workshops starting this week.
We enjoyed our first Race and Identity Workshop from Place2Be. We found out how we are all unique and different and the ways we can celebrate this.
Spring 1 Spellings
From January, we will be changing the way we complete our spelling tests in year 5. The children will be given up to 10 words, which have been selected weekly, from teacher assessment and the national curriculum and they will be put into no more than 5 sentences, along with a range of year 5 punctuation. These sentences will be tested in the same way as their usual spelling test, but the children will be awarded extra marks for using the correct punctuation. The sentences will be read to the children and spelling marks will be awarded for the 10 highlighted words. The spelling test in school will take place on a Friday. The reason we have chosen to change this is to help the children with the context of the words and to help them integrate them into writing.
Week 4 - Test Date Friday 30th January
Tom’s backpack was so full that he couldn’t squeeze his lunchbox inside.
The teacher’s desk was tidy, but she’d left her notebook open to remind herself of the homework.
Aisha’s kitten meowed loudly because it wasn’t used to strangers.
The children’s project is impressive, even though they’ve only practised it for a week.
Nan’s garden is beautiful, but you’ll need boots if you want to explore it after the rain.
Star of The Week
The Trade Game
The children had great fun learning about world trade during our lesson. We looked at different size countries and how their resources affected their level of trade. The children were put in teams and had to produce different shapes for different amounts. They all had different amounts of resources and this represented the trading power of different countries.
